You don't need to live in an area of outstanding natural beauty or in an amazing city - I live in a boring suburban area and find locations nearby all the time (and I always find more!) and I'm sure you will too when you know what to look for!

The process is flexible and works for any kind of session from posed family shots to high school seniors to mini sessions, and in natural locations or urban ones! (You just need to create your unique "critical criteria" for the type of session you're planning!)

Will this help me feel more confident at shoots?

A thousand percent YES. Knowing your location makes you feel calm and prepared, and having a shooting plan will help you feel less awkward when directing people. (Even if you are only photographing your own family, having a plan makes it less stressful for everyone!)
